SpeyerLuxemburg. On October 13th, 2023, the athletes of the Speyer karate club “Shotokan Karate Dojo Spira eV”, “Spira eV” for short, which was only founded in July 23, went to Kayl for the Coupe Internationale de Kayl 2023 in Luxembourg. 600 athletes from 16 nations (including India, Australia, Nepal and El Salvador)
Athletes and supervisors from Spira eV were very excited. They spent the night together in a hostel. After the first night, Saturday morning we went to the first day of competition, where the younger athletes were challenged. The international competition was very strong and the excitement increased by the minute. Nevertheless, Noemi Gutzler and Thore Holzmayr kept their nerve. Noemi only had to admit defeat in the final in the Kata U9 category (under 9 years) and took second place.
Thore narrowly missed the podium in the Kata U10 category and came fifth.
Xenia Eckert started in the Kata U12 category and had to admit defeat to the strong field of participants. David Gutzler, who was also registered, was unfortunately unable to start due to illness.
The second day of competition belonged to the older athletes.
Jonas-Pascal Liedy fought in two categories despite a cold. Kata U 18 and Kata Senior. In the Kata U18 category he took 9th place.
After two exciting and exciting days of the tournament, coach Kim Thu Le-Nethe drew a very positive conclusion: “I am very proud of our athletes, what they learned and practiced in training was put into practice excellently by everyone! We can rightly be pleased with the achievements we have achieved and are excited to see how we will perform at the next tournament in Vienna on October 21st.”
