Rising Star Warren Zaire-Emery Shines for Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League Victory

In Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-0 win against AC Milan in the Champions League, a young Frenchman once again stood out: it wasn’t Kylian Mbappé, but Warren Zaire-Emery. The 17-year-old has been playing in the Parisian club’s first team since the summer of 2022 and has been attracting more and more attention since then.

Zaire-Emery prepared the first PSG goal by Kylian Mbappè (32nd) as well as the 3-0 final point scored by CL debutant Kang-In Lee (89th).

After the Parisians’ recent success, the French media was full of praise for the young playmaker. L’Équipe wrote: “Warren Zaire-Emery, 17 years old and already a great” and Le Parisien headlined: “Zaire-Emery, king of the decisive passes”. UEFA also recognized his abilities and rewarded his performance with the “Man of the Match” award after the game.

Thierry Henry appointed Zaire-Emery captain in his position as coach of the French U21 national team and also had words of praise for the up-and-coming midfielder after the game against Milan: “Warren has his family around him, they are very close. He has everything he needs in his environment, at a top level. Anything is possible for this boy.”

And the data also speaks for itself: after the third matchday, he currently has the most assists in the Champions League with three assists. In addition, he is the youngest player to provide two assists in a game since the 2003/04 season.

Under PSG coach Luis Enrique, Zaire-Emery has developed into an undisputed regular player and has since played a good role for the club from the French capital week after week. Last year, the homegrown team often “just” came off the bench and was rarely able to make a decisive impact. The only thing that stood out was his records as the youngest player and goalscorer in the club’s history.

In the current season, the young Frenchman is showing early on that he can compete at a high international level. His contract in Paris runs until 2025, so PSG supporters can still look forward to their new Parisian prince in the next few years.
