Jannik Sinner left no stone unturned against his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego.

Based on the previous encounters, Jannik Sinner was able to go into the round of 16 match at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna against his Italian compatriot Lorenzo Sonego with confidence. Ultimately, the South Tyrolean won all three competitions on the tour, all of which took place this season.

After both players had won a service game, Sonego gave his opponent two running break chances with a misplaced forehand volley, of which Sinner was able to successfully use the first with a volley. The South Tyrolean continued to push with his powerful groundstrokes. After missing two chances for a double break when the score was 3-1, he managed to break serve in Sonego’s next service game. While fending off a break chance, Sinner used his second opportunity to lead the set.

In the second set, Sonego increasingly managed to use his strong forehand effectively. The 28-year-old also got his first break chance in the sixth game, but was unable to take advantage of it. In the Lucky Loser’s following service game, Sinner increased the pressure again with strong returns and got the decisive break with his third opportunity. The Masters winner left no stone unturned on his own serve and won 6:2, 6:4 after 93 minutes.

The world number 4 awaits in the quarterfinals. the winner of the last round of 16 between No. 7 seeded American Frances Tiafoe and Gael Monfils from France.
