The basketball players from Alba Berlin celebrated a resounding victory in the Basketball Bundesliga on matchday five. On Monday evening, coach Israel Gonzalez’s team clearly won their away game at BG Göttingen after a strong performance with 114:77 (56:39). The basis for the Berliners’ start-to-finish victory, which was never in jeopardy, for whom Khalifa Koumadje became the top scorer with 21 points, was an outstanding first quarter.

From the start, the Berliners dominated this offensively. With good ball movement, quick switching from defense to offense and great accuracy, the guests scored 39 points in the first ten minutes alone and thus built up a decisive 25-point lead. Neither the injury-related absence of Yanni Wetzell nor the rotation-related absence of Sterling Brown and Kresimir Nikic were of any significance.

Long interruption due to technical problems

In the second quarter, the Göttingen team found their way into the game better in front of 3,447 spectators in their own hall, but were only able to shorten Alba’s lead temporarily and only slightly. Shortly before the end of the quarter there was a strange interruption. Because the connection between the 24-second clock and its remote control was broken, the game was interrupted for almost half an hour before half-time broke shortly afterwards.

After the end, Alba continued the performance from the opening quarter with a little delay. The Berliners once again showed a unified team performance, with all twelve players scoring points. Above all, Khalifa Koumadje stood out from the field with 21 points and a perfect shooting rate (9/9).

But winger Gabriele Procida (20 points) also influenced Alba’s game with good moves to the basket. Malte Delow, Tim Schneider and the newcomers Justin Bean and Matt Thomas, who were confident in Göttingen, also scored double-digit points. The young development players Ziga Samar (eleven assists) and Matteo Spagnolo (eight assists) also impressed and laid the foundation for Alba’s clear 114:77 success. Thanks to this, the Berliners are in second place in the table after four wins from the first five games.
