EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- The Leones del Esgido paid tribute this Sunday to the career of Nelson Cruz, who recently announced his retirement from baseball.

“The Boomstick” said goodbye to the Major Leagues this year with 464 home runs and 2,053 hits in 19 years of service.

The former slugger received a plaque of recognition presented by Eduardo Najri, vice president of the Esgido Baseball Club, who was accompanied by players Jimmy Paredes and Erik González, as well as coach Alex Concepción, who also presented a shirt signed by the players of the red team. .

In Dominican baseball, Cruz also had an outstanding participation with the Gigantes del Cibao.

The tribute made prior to the match against the Colts, and with which the scarlet team also recognizes the humanitarian work of the former Major League Baseball player, was part of Cruz’s farewell tour in each stadium in the country.

During his career, the native of Las Matas de Santa Cruz has also received awards such as the Roberto Clemente, Espy, Muhammad Ali and others in recognition of his philanthropic and humanitarian work.
