The only candidate for the position, Vējonis, received 51 out of 53 possible votes, with two delegates voting against him.

Vējonis was elected as LBS president for the first time in 2020, and his term of office will end on January 20, 2024.

Also, the new 20-member LBS council was elected, for which all 53 LBS members voted unanimously.

In the review of the past four years, Vējonis emphasized the creation of regional national teams, the launch of the LBS excellence program, the completion of the construction of the basketball house or sports hall next year and other completed works.

Edgars Jaunups, the representative of “VEF Rīga” Basketball Club, criticized Vējonim when he pointed out the high results of the youth national team in the European Championships last summer. He pointed out that the success of the adult national team in the World Cup is connected with the once high success of the youth national team.

In 2020, Vējonis was elected LBS president, receiving 34 votes, while his competitor Anete Jēkabsone-Žogota received 14 votes. Kaspars Tsipruss withdrew his candidacy at that time and was confirmed as the general secretary of LBS in the same year.
