La Scaligera Basket Verona joins the Social Inclusion Project of ULSS 9

La Scaligera Basket Verona adheres to the Social and Inclusive Tourism project promoted by the ULSS 9 Scaligera company. During today’s press conference, held at the Pala AGSM AIM in Verona, the first of a series of initiatives and benefits aimed at people with disabilities and their families was presented. Speakers included Pietro Girardi, General Director of ULSS 9, Alessandro Frosini, General Manager of Scaligera Basket, Alessandro Ramagli, head coach of Scaligera Basket, and Lorenzo Penna, captain of the first team.

The company has decided to offer all people assisted by local associations and their entertainers and educators the opportunity to attend the Tezenis Verona – UEB Cividale match for free, scheduled for Friday 1 December 2023 at 8.45pm. Furthermore, special discounts are also available for relatives, friends and supporters of the associations.

«We are happy that with this initiative Veronese basketball also officially enters the network of Social Inclusion partners – comments Dr. Pietro Girardi, General Director of ULSS 9 Scaligera –, a project that we presented to the press at the beginning of the month on the occasion of the our annual Services Conference. Sport is a fundamental piece for an inclusive society and basketball in Verona has always been one of the most followed and renowned disciplines. I am sure that the girls and boys followed by the local associations – whom I greet and thank – will be thrilled to be able to enjoy a match live, which will certainly not fail to provide emotions.”

Alessandro Frosini, General Manager of Scaligera Basket Verona, thanked Dr. Girardi on behalf of the company. «La Scaligera particularly cares about this beautiful project in which we are very happy to participate. We have invited the associations that deal with disabilities in our province to attend Friday’s match against Cividale and we have already received numerous confirmations. Our players will take to the field together with the Baskin associations, who will do a short demonstration during the break to promote and make this sport known to all our fans. Furthermore, the commercial created with the team to promote the initiative will be broadcast on the video walls of the stadium and we will activate a campaign on social channels, we will also convey the message during the live national TV broadcast on Friday”.

«Civil society does not need to integrate, but to include – declared Alessandro Ramagli, coach of Scaligera Basket – Two very different concepts. It is not enough to include people with disabilities in a social context, but their qualities must be enhanced. This is the case of Baskin – which actually means “inclusive basketball” – which manages to bring together able-bodied and disabled people. Well, this is a beautiful example of what sport can do for our society.”

In closing, captain Lorenzo Penna shared his experience on sport and inclusion: «Every year in Bologna there is a tournament organized by the “La Ricotta” Association, of which my brother is a member, with wheelchair basketball competitions . On those occasions I was able to see the strength of mind and will of these kids, who through sport can experience moments of serenity and lightness, all together and with a smile, which is the most important thing.”
