Saarland Do-it-yourself Initiative Awards 37 Community-Oriented Projects

With a total of 61,300 euros, the state government is supporting 37 community-oriented projects in Saarland cities and municipalities in the 22nd funding round of the ‘Saarland do it yourself’ initiative.

The range extends from cultural, leisure and learning projects for children to monument preservation measures or the restoration of public facilities. Sporting initiatives are supported, as is assistance in the areas of integration and refugee aid.

“Spending time and energy for the good of the community is not a given. The commitment of citizens, clubs and initiatives deserves respect and recognition. But financial resources are also needed so that great and creative project ideas can be realized. With Saarland do-it-yourself, we want to help directly and unbureaucratically and honor the voluntary work of many Saarlanders,” explains Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger. She also thanked the award winners in a personal letter for their initiative.

Since the first edition of the funding program in summer 2013, a total of 423 community-oriented projects have been supported to the amount of around 816,299 euros. The independent jury has now selected the following 37 prize winners from 47 submitted projects for this funding period:

With the “Saarland do it yourself” initiative, the Saarland state government has been financially supporting voluntary, community-oriented projects with up to 3,000 euros since 2013. Citizens, associations, initiatives and similar associations of natural persons can submit applications by letter, email or online. Twice a year, an independent jury decides which projects will be funded. Deadlines for submitting applications are April 30th and October 31st.
