Gael Monfils, Arthur Son, and Luca Van Assche Nominated for ATP Awards of the Year 2023

Little by little, theATP awards players the ATP Awards of the year 2023. In total, three French people were in the list of nominees. Arthur Son et Luca Van Assche for the greatest revelation and Gaël Monfils for the best comeback. Having fallen to 394th place in 2023, the Parisian made his comeback in 2023 by winning a 12th title in Stockholm at the age of 37 to move up to 74th place. But this was not enough since it was Jan-Lennard Struff who won. Having fallen to 167th due to injury, the German achieved a new best ranking in June with a 21st place. Alexander Zverev et Dominik Koepfer were the other contenders.

Struff became the first lucky loser in the final in Madrid

If he still hasn’t won a single title, Struff became in April the first lucky loser in history to reach the final of the Madrid Masters 1000which he lost against Carlos Alcaraz. Also beaten in the final at Stuttgart in June by Frances Tiafoe, Struff had to stay away from the field for three months afterwards. Without this injury, there is no doubt that the Top 20 would have been destroyed. This will undoubtedly be a goal in 2024, with the obtaining of a first title. “I am very, very happy and excited to win the comeback of the year 2023 award. I was nominated with Sascha, Domi and Gaël, who also deserve this award for their seasons, so congratulations. I could never have expected this, to climb so quickly into the Top 30 from outside the Top 150. It’s crazy how fast it went,” he told ATP.
