How paradoxical this evening is for Clément Noël. Leading at the end of the first round, with a considerable margin given the small overall gaps (0”37 ahead while there were 15 in one second), the Frenchman failed to hold on to take 11th victory of his career. When closing the starting gate, the Vosges native was even half a second ahead of Schwarz but he was never in the right mood to hope to win. Clean but a little shy at the top of the route, the Tricolore entered the wall with insufficient commitment, scoring a little under the gate, with hard support. And, at the finish, the Frenchman was beaten.
