When the weather forecast promises good flying conditions, Wolfgang Freund is already focused, tense and nervous the evening before. “Like an athlete before a high competition,” says the 54-year-old Hofheimer. “Then I’m totally into it.” Until he finally takes off from the ground with his paraglider, this nervousness continues to increase. “As soon as I picked up, she was gone. Then I function, that’s my element, that’s where I’m at home,” he says.
Wolfgang Freund has proven that he is in his element in the air: He is the Hesse paragliding champion, achieved second place in the German flatland competition and is winner of the performance class in the XC Cup, a purely flatland competition for the Central Germany region.
