French Judo Team Begins Training Camp in Reunion for Paris Olympics

The French judo team has started its training camp in Reunion. A preparation course for the Paris Olympics which will continue until January 14. Judokas from Reunion, Mauritius and Madagascar share their training.

JUDO. The French men’s team is training for the very first time in Reunion. And even if Teddy Riner is absent, it is an event for Reunion judo, as for the entire Indian Ocean region. The selection arrived on Wednesday January 3, and it quickly took up residence in the regional dojo of Champ-Fleuri. “This is the very first time that a French team has come to train in Reunion,” rejoices Justin Guillemin, the federal technical advisor of the Reunion League. For athletes, it’s about getting away from the cold during this period when grayness reigns in mainland France. “January and February is a period that has a bad influence on bodies and their morale,” explains Justin Guillemin. So our island constitutes an excellent refuge to best enter a year like no other with the Paris Olympics. It is also pure happiness for the Reunion League and its practitioners, even if everyone would have liked to see the great Teddy Riner. “That would have been the huge icing on the cake,” admitted Justin Guillemin. But Teddy Riner, due to his size and his extraordinary track record, is following a special program in Brazil, to find, at the same time as the sun, competition at his level to prepare as best as possible for what should be his last games.
