A punishment. Twenty-four hours after its card (14-6) at the expense of Germany in the round of 16 of the European Championships in Eindhoven (Netherlands), the French women’s team lost the cup this Tuesday against the Greece (15-7) in the quarter-finals.
Faced with an opponent who had narrowly beaten them (14-12), last December 22 in a friendly match played in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines), the Tricolores had high hopes of reaching the last four. This match also marked the reunion between the Greek coach of Les Bleues Théodoros Lorantos and the selection he coached from 2020 to 2021.
Unfortunately, the Blue only lasted two quarters. After a bad start (0-3), they had nevertheless reversed the trend (4-3; 5-4) and remained in contact with their opponents at the break (5-6). Greece, which was hoping to qualify for the Paris Olympics in this match, then showed itself to be physically superior while showing efficiency defensively and offensively. Result: a 9-2 in 8 minutes.
The Hellenic selection will face Spain on Thursday in the semi-final. France will challenge Croatia in a classification match with the objective of winning their ticket to the World Cup in Qatar next month.
