Advancement in Malaysia: Successful badminton duo open 2024 with clear victory
The men’s doubles Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup were responsible for some of the great Danish badminton experiences in 2023, and on Tuesday morning Danish time, the duo got a good start in 2024.
In the first round of the Super 1000 tournament Malaysia Open, Astrup and Skaarup took a crushing victory of 21-16, 21-10 over the Indonesians Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin.
The Danish double, with his fifth place in the world ranking, was favorite for the showdown against the two Indonesians, who are number 11 in the world ranking.
And Astrup and Skaarup didn’t have to spend long to play through to the second round of the big tournament in Malaysia either.
The first set took 19 minutes and the second set was over after a little more than a quarter of an hour.
The duo delivered an impressive 2023, where it resulted in EC gold, WC silver and four tournament victories.
Line Kjærsfeldt had a slightly tougher start to the new year in the women’s singles. She dropped out of the Malaysia Open after losing to the world number one, South Korean An Se-young.
