Memphis’ season seems definitively lost. If being the first 25 games without Ja Morant was a hard blow, seeing now how he has been injured for the rest of the season seems to have put a damper on the Grizzlies’ playoff chances. And we say it seems because in the first match without him they won decisively on the Dallas court and Marcus Smart himself assures that they cannot be ruled out yet.
«We have nothing to lose. Especially without Ja, everyone is writing us off. “Everyone expects us to just give up and quit, and that has nothing to do with this team and the heart it has,” comments the guard in statements recorded by Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
The former Boston player is clear that the situation is not at all simple, since Jaren Jackson Jr. is also having physical problems, but that does not mean he is considering taking a step back for the remainder of the season.
“Let’s fight. That’s all we can do. That’s what we know. We are going to fight until we can’t fight anymore. And that’s all you can ask: that you fight until the end. We already understood at the beginning of the season that the odds were against us. We understood that perhaps this year not much is expected of us, but it is also a year in which we must also do well thinking about the next one,” she says.
