Jerod Mayo Named New Head Coach of New England Patriots: A Family Affair

We stay as a family on the Patriots side. As expected, ESPN announces that Jerod Mayo will become the new coach of the New England franchise.

Journalist Adam Schefter explains that a press conference would be planned for next week to formalize this hiring.

Selected by the Patriots in the first round of the 2008 Draft, linebacker of the team until 2015, and linebackers coach since 2019, Jerod Mayo is a pure product of the house.

Aside from his five years as linebackers coach, he has no experience as a coordinator or head coach, either in the NFL or elsewhere. It is therefore a relative leap into the unknown for Robert Kraft and the supporters.

Jerod Mayo, the choice of continuity?

By choosing to trust Jerod Mayo, the Patriots shouldn’t even interview other candidates. Because a clause in his contract stipulated that he could take the place of head coach in the event of Bill Belichick’s departure. The franchise was not required to follow this clause, but so appears to have decided to do so.

Mike Vrabel, who recently parted ways with the Titans, will therefore have to look elsewhere.
