The 2023 Asian Cup officially opened on Friday (12/1) evening WIB. Qatar, the host, started the opening match against Lebanon. Both teams are in Group A with China and Tajikistan.
Qatar led 1-0 in the first half through Akram Afif’s goal in the 45th minute. Almoez doubled the score early in the second minute then Afif scored a brace in the final minute, making Qatar win their opening match with a score of 3-0.

The Course of the Match
Qatar scored a quick goal in the fifth minute through Almoez Ali. However, the referee annulled it because the striker was in an offside position when chasing a cross.
Qatar continues to press. It was Abdurisag’s turn to shoot from a tight angle, but still didn’t reach the target.
Another opportunity for Qatar in the 20th minute. Afif sent a pass from a free kick, Alhamdi Ali headed it, but the round skin was able to be secured by the Matar goalkeeper.
Lebanon responded a minute later. Maatouk’s close-range shot was saved by Barsham’s goalkeeper.
Gold float from Afif! In the 31st minute, he headed the ball, unfortunately it still hit the crossbar.
Qatar’s first goal!
Qatar took the lead 1-0 in the 45th minute, with Akram Afif as the goal scorer. Afif successfully kicked the ball from Almoez’s reflection in the penalty box.
Lebanon appeared more attacking in the second half. However, Qatar’s defense was strong enough to clear passes and block shots.

In the 56th minute, Qatar increased their lead to 2-0. Almoez got his name on the scoreboard after heading home a pampering cross from Mohammed Waad.
Lebanon had difficulty getting shots on target. A golden opportunity presented itself in the final 10 minutes through Ali, but his close-range shot was blocked again by Qatar’s back line and only resulted in a corner kick.
In the 88th minute, Bugiel also had a chance. The substitute player took advantage of Afif’s mistake when controlling the ball, but his shot from outside the penalty box did not meet the target.
Qatar’s third goal!
Afif made a brace in the 90+6 minute. Afif ran fast into the penalty box, then flawlessly kicked the ball and it glided smoothly into the goal.
The match finished 3-0 for Qatar’s victory.
