Rahm Emanuel, United States ambassador in Tokyo, presented new Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani with an oversized visa for his dog, Decoy.
The ambassador himself posted photos of the visit on social media, and the embassy said it occurred recently when Ohtani was back in Japan.
Emanuel and Ohtani posed with a replica of the visa for the player’s dog, Decoy. It shows a photo of the dog, whose Japanese name is Dekopin, lists his birth date as “dog years” and shows that the canine has dual American and Japanese citizenship.
“Delighted to meet two-time MLB MVP Ohtani-san again”Emanuel published on X, formerly Twitter. “Maybe next time I’ll be lucky enough to meet your MVPup, Decoy.”.
Is it showtime or is it Sho-time!? Thrilled to meet trailblazing two-time @MLB MVP Ohtani-san again – my lucky day. Maybe next time I’ll be fortunate enough to meet his MVPup, Decoy – this “visa” should help? I promise my bark is worse than my bite! ⚾️????@Dodgers @DodgersNation pic.twitter.com/hzPZRPYnSn

Ohtani previously met with Emanuel at the U.S. Embassy in March 2023, when the two-way player was with the Los Angeles Angels. Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract to join the Dodgers in December. $680 million will be deferred between 2024 and 2033.
Now Decoy is one of the most recognized dogs in baseball, although Ohtani’s new teammate with the Dodgers, his compatriot Yoshinobu Yamamoto, would be giving him competition. The Japanese ace has his own dog named Mikan, which was introduced to the world in this adorable photo.
If Mikan can get her own Visa processed soon, we’ll be able to see their pets playing in the outfield at Dodger Stadium..
