Shaedon Sharpe’s Injury Complicates an Already Challenging Season for the Portland Trail Blazers

See the meme where the player gets a red card while on a stretcher? This is surely what Shaedon Sharpe and all of Oregon must have felt after the announcement of their young guard’s injury against the Thunder. Exited during the 3rd quarter of a one-sided match, he will miss 2 weeks of competition for an abdominal injury.

Very complicated season for the Blazers who are 14th in the Western Conference with only 10 victories in 39 games. The list of injured is as long as the fans’ feelings about the season and it’s not going to get better since Shaedon Sharpe will also join the infirmary.

Shaedon Sharpe exited the Jan. 11 matchup at Oklahoma City. Further imaging demonstrated a lower abdominal strain.

The guard drafted in 7th position in 2022 is having a good individual season. 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists on average with percentages and regularity to improve. But it is also the result of a sudden increase in responsibilities with the departure of Damian Lillard. The Blazers will clearly miss him since even if they no longer play anything apart from the draft, their goal is above all to help young people progress. He has already missed the game against the Wolves and the Suns, two games that they… lost. Well, his presence probably wouldn’t have changed anything but he could have sent 2-3 highlights to contribute to the Top 10 of the night.

At least we can hope that Frenchman Rayan Rupert will have additional minutes and will take advantage of Sharpe’s absence. He played the last 4 games including a good performance against Phoenix which – fingers crossed – will have convinced Chauncey Billups to give him more minutes.

Malcolm Brogdon, Deandre Ayton and Jerami Grant are expected to return soon. The Blazers will probably get back to playing basketball but this absence is another blow to the morale of the franchise and the fans, who will have to settle for a buzzer-beater from Damian Lillard to remember the good old days.
