Some 170 archers will compete in the Andalusian Indoor Archery Championship and more than 650 will do so in the Spanish Indoor Recurve Bow Championship
Sport, once again, gives impetus to Jaén tourism and the hospitality industry. Still with the hangover from the San Antón Night International Race and its good hotel occupancy data, new dates are coming up that have an important economic impact. The first, this weekend with the Andalusian Indoor Archery Championship which is held in Las Fuentezuelas with 170 archers. But in February, more than 650 athletes and companions will meet at the Spanish Championship in Sala Arco Recurvo.
Before the February event arrives, which will mobilize about 1,000 people including athletes, technical team and companions, there is this weekend’s event in the pavilion of the Las Fuentezuelas Municipal Sports Complex. It will have the Recurve Bow (Olympic) and Compound modalities. There will be participants from the youngest age to veterans. The tournament will host 170 archers from all over Andalusia. The Jaén representation will have 20 archers15 of them representing the Santa Catalina club and 5 representing Arcosur.
During the morning of Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the minors up to 70 will compete. In the afternoon, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., it will be the turn of the qualifiers for the absolute and veteran categories. and adapted and, on Sunday, the qualifying rounds for these last categories will take place.

The Sports Councilor, Chema Alvarez, is pleased that the capital is hosting this event. “29 clubs from Andalusia will compete in this tournament, 170 archers, of which 20 are from Jaén, with which the city once again welcomes hundreds of people who, in addition to attending the championship, will go sightseeing in the city,” he applauds.
For its part, Jose Luis Chaves, president of the Andalusian Archery Federation (FATA), has highlighted that Jaén becomes the Andalusian capital of archery. “First was the Santa Catalina Trophy, then the celebration of the Andalusian Championship and in a few weeks two more events will be organized, with which sport and tourism go hand in hand again,” he applauds.
Finally, Javier Medina, president of the Santa Catalina Club, has highlighted that Jaén is a pioneer in holding the archery championship for intellectually disabled people, since it is the first time it has been held in Andalusia and throughout Spain with these characteristics. ”The Spanish Federation is looking at it to be able to implement it at the national level and that it is celebrated in Jaén is something to be proud of,” he concludes.
