A physical examination remains to be completed, a source familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.
The person spoke anonymously because the contract has not been finalized.
Chapman is an experienced left-hander who could support David Bednar, a star stopper.
Chapman turns 36 next month. He collected 321 saves with five clubs, in 14 seasons in the big leagues. Over the last two years, his role has been more that of a reliever setting the stage for a stopper.
Last year, Chapman was 6-5 with a 3.09 ERA in 61 games, with Kansas City and Texas. He had six saves.
In the playoffs with the Rangers, Chapman did well by limiting the opponent to two runs in eight innings, in nine games.
