Palestine advanced to the last 16 of the Asian Cup after winning over Hong Kong. They were ranked third best. Palestine accompanies Iran and the United Arab Emirates from Group C.
Hong Kong vs Palestine on matchday Finally, Group C of the 2023 Asian Cup was held at the Abdullah Bin Khalifah Stadium, Qatar, Tuesday (23/1/2024). Palestine took the initiative to attack.
As a result, Palestine was able to open the scoring in the 12th minute. Mus’ab Al-Batat’s cross from the right was headed into a goal by Uday Dabagh.
Left behind, Hong Kong had a chance to equalize. However, Chan Phillip’s kick in front of the goal still went up.
The 1-0 score for Palestine lasted until the end of the first half.

In the final minutes of the match, Hong Kong was awarded a penalty after Al-Batat handballed in the penalty box. Everton Camargo stepped up to take the shot but it hit the crossbar. Pelestina closed the 90 minutes with a 3-0 win.
In other matches in Group C which were held simultaneously. Iran managed to achieve a 2-1 victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Education City Stadium. Team Melli scored two goals by Mehdi Taremi in the 26th and 65th minutes. UAE reduced the deficit in the final minute thanks to a goal from Yahya Al-Gasshani
This result made Iran qualify for the last 16 by achieving perfect results after collecting nine points to become champions of Group C. UAE in second place with four points also qualified to secure a ticket to the knockout phase.
Meanwhile, Palestine had to settle for being in third place. Their points are the same as UAE but they are behind on goal difference.
Palestine is also certain to qualify for the last 16 as the third best. Hong Kong is bottom with no points.
