The NBA’s biggest stars have been saying for months that they want to be at the Paris Olympics. The USA’s preliminary squad now reads like an all-star selection.

The US Basketball Association has announced a preliminary 41-man squad for the Olympic Games and, as expected, nominated the biggest names in the sport. The list published on Tuesday includes LeBron James and Anthony Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker from the Phoenix Suns, LA Clippers professionals Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and James Harden and Joel Embiid from the Philadelphia 76ers and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. Draymond Green, however, is not nominated. The Warriors professional was recently suspended from the NBA after a punch.
Curry has never competed for the U.S. team in the Olympics. If Durant is there in Paris and the USA wins the Olympic victory as expected, he would be the first basketball player in the world to be a four-time Olympic champion. The national team at the Olympic Games will be coached by Steve Kerr from the Golden State Warriors. His assistants are Ty Lue of the Clippers and Eric Spoelstra of the Heat.
The twelve-man squad for Paris will be finalized in the spring. The USA will then prepare with three test matches in July. In Las Vegas against Canada on July 10th, then in London on July 20th against South Sudan and on July 22nd against world champions Germany.
A special case in the provisional squad is Duncan Robinson from the Miami Heat, who is also interested in the three-on-three variant and is in talks with the US association. “There’s definitely a chance,” said Robinson, who is one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA.
