The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner beat the Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, one of the four “Slams”, the most important and prestigious tennis tournaments: he therefore qualified for the semi-finals, where he will meet the number 1 in the world Novak Djokovic (match is scheduled for Friday). Sinner won the match with a certain margin, 3 sets to 0 (6-4, 7-6, 6-3) and in just under 2 hours and 40 minutes: a remarkable result especially considering that Rublev is the tennis player number 5 in the world ranking, while Sinner is fourth. So far Sinner’s path at the Australian Open has been very clear: he is the only player left in the tournament who has not yet lost a set, that is, winning all his matches by 3 sets to 0 (best of 5 sets are played).
Sinner is in great form and even before the tournament he was considered one of the favorites for the final victory, after having been the decisive player in Italy’s victory in the Davis Cup in November, the main team tournament for national teams. In the semi-final, however, he will have to face Djokovic who is the absolute favorite and has won the tournament 10 times: in the last three meetings between the two, which all took place in November, Sinner had won twice (one in the Davis Cup) and Djokovic once (the more important, though).
