The only way for the Baltimore quarterback to change what is said about him is to keep winning, and last Saturday’s performance was just a first draft
BALTIMORE – Everyone seems to have a narrative when it comes to the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens, Lamar Jackson.
The narrative existed when Jackson coming out of college, that he was better equipped to play the wide receiver or running back position. Forget the narratives. Jackson has been secretly writing the script for his own triumphant film.
We saw a preview last Saturday.
Jackson scored two touchdowns, threw for two more, and led the team with 100 rushing yards as the Ravens they defeated the Houston Texans by 34-10 to advance to the AFC Championship Game next January 28th.
But, the score really wasn’t the big story of the game. The real script had to do with Jackson becoming a more vocal leader, moving his specific weight when necessary, and lighting a necessary fire. On Saturday, the fire was called for at halftime inside the team’s locker room. Ravens. With the score tied 10-10, the Ravens playing lethargically, and Ravens fans on the edge of their seats, Jacksongave his companions a lively talk.
During the press conference after Saturday’s match, Jackson He commented that he was angry and let his teammates know that he was not about to suffer a setback in his first game of the current playoffs. When asked exactly what he said, Jackson he smiled. ”It would be inappropriate if I said it here,” she revealed.

Ronnie Stanleythe veteran left offensive tackle of the Ravenssaid Jackson shook the whole team, and that it was important that he did it. “It means a lot to a guy in that position.” [levantar la voz]”he admitted Stanley. “He doesn’t have to say anything, we know what kind of competitor he is. But, when he says something, everyone listens, especially on offense.”
Jackson led a ferocious second half assault beginning with the first series, punctuated with Jackson scoring on a 15-yard run. He followed that up with a 15-yard touchdown pass to tight end Isaiah Likely that left up the Ravens by 24-10. The final touchdown of the evening for Jackson It was an amazing run on the outside to score from 8 yards out.
It was the third convincing performance in a row for Jackson. He was brilliant against the favorites San Francisco 49ers on tour, and dominant against the Miami Dolphins a week later, at home.
Jackson He has been content in the past to lead by example, but teammates agree that he has been more vocal this season and his verbal presence has made a difference. The fullback Patrick Ricard pointed out that when someone like Jackson He speaks, his words carry weight.
“He is more of a guy who leads by showing it on the field,” he accepted. Ricard. “But, I think this year he’s been more vocal at points where we needed him to be, like today when it’s 10-10 at the half, and the offense is a little stagnant.
“Wish the Super Bowl with so much desire that is what he will start talking about now. I think that’s what we need and it’s what he’s been doing.”

Jackson’s greater verbal presence could also reflect an awareness of his sporting mortality. Although he is still a relatively young player at the age of 27, Jackson understands that the window of opportunity is beginning to narrow.
During a recent interview with The Athletic, Jackson He said that when he looked at the players who entered the league with him in 2018 and saw how many of his former teammates are now spread across the league, he became more aware of the timing.
“It made me recoil from realizing, ‘Wow, I’m getting older,’” he confessed. Jackson During the Interview. “I have to get a championship now. It’s one of the reasons I’m stressing that I need to win it. I’m not getting younger. “It’s better to win now.”
It doesn’t take much to grow old in this league.
Every season, a new crop of potential young stars enter the ranks. NFL. In 2019, the year in which Jackson won his first prize as Most valuable Player, C.J. Stroudthe sensational rookie quarterback of Houstonwas voted Most valuable Player of the Elite 11a competition for high school quarterbacks.
Stroud is now in the competition for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. After Saturday’s defeat, Stroud had praise for Jackson.
“I’ve been a fan of his since high school, really,” he said. Stroud Saturday. “It is truly an honor to share the field with a player like that. He is a generational talent. He is a great quarterback. He can run, he can throw, he’s an underrated passer. “I’m a fan of his.”
Jackson He’s also aware of the legion of African-American quarterbacks entering the league. Many, like Stroudwere influenced by Jackson. When asked about the record number of African American quarterbacks competing in the playoffs NFL (six of the 14 qualified teams started African-American quarterbacks in the postseason), Jackson He said the numbers are part of an evolving narrative.
“It’s great to see. Life is just different now,” she replied. “Things evolve. The guys are just great and you show their true talent. C.J. Stroud He is a tremendous quarterback. I told him when we played him before, in the first game of the season, I told him, ‘You’re amazing out there.’ The schoolboy doesn’t even compare to where he stands now, me watching from a distance. He’s a great quarterback, and for other African-American quarterbacks to be in the playoffs, that’s tremendous. We hope, more kids will be included in the coming years.”
Sociology aside, Jackson is focused on the task at hand; lead these Ravens al Super Bowl. He knows that until he does, everyone will continue to spin their own narratives about him, and they won’t stop because of last Saturday’s victory. They won’t stop when Ravens receive the American Conference Championship Game on January 28, despite the fact that the rival quarterback is Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.
The only way for Jackson change that narrative is to keep winning, prolong the magic. She must write his own script.
Last Saturday’s performance was, barely, a first draft.
