For the Bergamo girl the 2nd time of the 2nd heat behind the Ticino arrow: due to a wide exit in the 1st heat, we could have seen it again Sofas back on the podium in giant slalom 8 years later. A mockery of just 5 cents Federica Brignone (6th at 1.45” from Gut): after a shaky first start she got back on track, staying ahead of Goggia until the last half time. In the last 10 “, without making obvious errors, you compromised the possibility of reaching the podium. A trend that has been repeated for some races now and which suggests some doubts regarding the preparation of the setup (waxes, boots, etc…). SPECIAL SLALOM Men – Unprecedented comeback! The Swiss recovers 29 positions and wins the Chamonix slalom, an absolute record. For a handful of hundredths he risked not qualifying for the second heat, due to the lack of grip on the outside ski which took him about half way down the track. In order not to go out of line, he was forced to stop and restart practically from a standstill, thus slipping to the bottom of the partial classification. He took full advantage of the advantage of starting first on a track destined to be ruined a lot and recovered a second and a half on Loic Meillard (2nd at 0.16”) and Clement Noel (3rd at 0.18”). The first heat took place an hour earlier than usual due to abnormal temperatures which forced the FIS to cancel the Garmisch races for women and the speed trials for men. This choice preserved the integrity of the track during the first descent, while in second class what was expected happened. The race saw minimal gaps: Alex Vinatzer finished 10th with only 46 hundredths of a second from first place. In one second, 27 out of 30 athletes from the second heat were within one second, each descent could be worth the podium as well as 20th place. A real Russian roulette.
JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – The 2024 World Junior Championships were held in Haute-Savoie: our Italian players were also among the great protagonists! January 30th in the downhill, Italy wins two medals (silver and bronze, Gregorio Bernardi and Max Perathoner) behind the Swiss phenomenon Livio Hiltbrand – could make his debut in the World Cup as early as next year. On January 31st Italy made a clean sweep with two gold medals: Gregorio Bernardi (Super-G) and Max Perathoner & Edoardo Saracco (Combined Team). On February 3rd in the Giant Slalom one sensational mockery for Stefano Pizzato who sees the bronze stolen by just 4 cents by the Swede Fabian Ax Swartprotégé of Marcel Hirscher who already races in the World Cup. Gold in the Giant goes to the American Ryder Sarchett ahead of the home idol Alban Elezi-Cannaferina. In the Special Slalom gold went to the Swiss Hachler, silver to the Austrian Zudrell and bronze to the Norwegian Grahl-Madesen. Saracco better than the Italians 9th.
JUNIOR WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – Empty purse in terms of medals for the baby blueswhich in every test almost always places at least two athletes in the Top 10. The gold in downhill goes to Switzerland’s Malorie Blancbehind her two Austrians (Viktoria Burgler 2° e Nicol Eibl 3°). Matilde Lorenzi is the best of the Italians, 7th place. The giant slalom saw Canadian Britt Richardson triumph (18° a Kronplatz) ahead of Switzerland’s Stefanie Grob and Lara Colturi (12th at Kronplatz) on which we don’t want to say any more words so as not to attract the ire of the FISI. For the blues also the 7th place for Francesca Carolli. In the slalom there are three Italians in the Top 10unfortunately none on the podium; Beatrice Sola (5th), Ambra Pomarè (6th) and the youngest of the expedition to Savoy, Giorgia Collomb – born in 2006 – (9th). Latvian Germane takes the goldalready admired in CdM also at Kronplatz, while silver and bronze go to Switzerland (Anuk Brandli) and Sweden (Cornelia Ohlund) respectively.
