The governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro R. Pierluisi, together with the secretary of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR), Annie Escobar, witnessed the Fill the Courts and Not the Prisons Basketball Carnival, which took place at the Palacio de Recreation and Sports of Mayagüez. The activity, in which the interim mayor of Mayagüez, Jorge Ramos Ruiz, and the secretary of the Department of Recreation and Sports (DRD), Ray Quiñones, were also present, had the purpose of promoting sports as part of rehabilitation, as well as creating a space for fraternization between the inmates and their families.
The first executive addressed the inmates about the importance of rehabilitation and the commitment of his administration to continue promoting programs that encourage them to be good citizens.
At the carnival, friendly games were held between the following institutions: Sabana Hoyos 216, Aguadilla Guerrero Correctional Institution, Mayagüez Detention Center, Ponce 1,000 Correctional Complex and the Pedro Rodríguez Mateo Correctional Complex.
