Noah Trapp Takes Home Silver at Danish Open

Noah Trapp continues his good momentum. This weekend he won silver at the Danish Open in Vejle.

After a very good end to 2023 where he notably shone in France, with silver in Noisy-le-Grand then gold in Nîmes, beating his brother Lucas in the final, Noah Trapp seems to be attacking 2024 in the same spirit . Winner of a small tournament in Switzerland in January, the Eschois judoka then lost his means at the Visé Open two weeks ago, losing his two fights. This weekend, he headed to Denmark with his brother and their coach, Frédéric Georgery, to participate in the Danish Open: “We chose this competition because there are many nations that we don’t like. not used to meeting. In addition, the combo was perfect with the competition and then, immediately, a two-day course. Today (Editor’s note: Monday), we were at 250-300 on the mat, there was plenty to work on,” says the former coach of the national team.

But before this internship, there was a competition. Even more spicy than that of Noisy-le-Grand. Even if that doesn’t really interest the technician: “What I look at is the attitude of the guys. And Noah worked really well.” Indeed, in the -60 kg category, while he has just passed his first year, the 20-year-old young man has once again done wonders. He successively beat the Dutchman Bronsvoort, the Canadian Nepton, the British Howard, then the Swede Jaskari to reach the final of the category. Unfortunately, he stumbled on the last step represented by the Japanese Ito Minato: “We had a plan and Noah respected it. Namely getting into him. But he was a little too generous. Now he had the right attitude, it was a good experience. He did a great job. A great competition.”

Lucas, deprived of bronze despite an ippon

The main interested party was also very satisfied: “Frankly, I am super happy with the result. I knew, firstly, to remain patient, which I generally lack in competitions, and secondly, to trust myself. Afterwards, with a trainer like Fred and Lucas, psychologically, I was unbeatable. In the final, there was a place, but I made a mistake and in this type of competition, that is not forgiving. And he punished me.”

The Trapp clan could even have left with a second charm. Unfortunately, Lucas, entered in -60 kg among juniors, thought he had been rewarded for his efforts (7 fights) with a bronze medal. But no: “In the final for bronze, he scored a clear and clear ippon. But the table wants to see the action again. The camera angle is not good. And despite the fact that the referee confirms that there was ippon, the table decides to resume the fight. After having fought a series of fights, including the last four which followed one another almost without interruption, and contested four golden scores, Lucas Trapp inevitably takes the blame. Physically. And psychologically. And even if he manages to get back on the right path, it is ultimately his opponent who will leave with the bronze. Angry: “There were ten times ippon. It’s sad.”

We will find the Trapp brothers in action in two weeks, in Austria.
