Which team, all sports and all countries combined, is the most expensive in the world? Seen from Belgium and even Europe, where football is the king sport, we would tend to opt for Real Madrid, record holder for victories in the Champions League. Well, we are very far from the mark. According to the Top 100 most expensive franchises published by Forbes and Sportico, Real is the first football club but is overall “only” 11th (valued at 5.605 billion euros).
The first ? The Dallas Cowboys, the American football franchise, estimated at 8.5 billion euros! However, it is not certain that Jerry Jones, the owner whose personal fortune – built thanks to oil – is estimated at 12.64 billion, will agree to sell for this price. However, he bought his franchise in 1989 for 150 million dollars (138.43 million euros today). It’s not so surprising that the Cowboys, five-time Super Bowl winners, are nicknamed “America’s Team.”
