(AGENPARL) – Wed 28 February 2024 Honkbalweek Haarlem is confirmed in the 2024 program of the Italia Baseball Elite National Team, which will take place from 12 to 19 July in Haarlem (Holland).
The competition, now in its 31st edition (the first was held in 1961), will maintain its traditional format with 6 participating teams. Confirmed for the 2022 edition, in addition to Italy, the home national team of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the selections of Japan and the United States, while China Taipei joins the list of participants (this is a return for the island of Taiwan) and Spain, European champions last year.
The evocative stage of the Pim Mulier Stadion and the area surrounding the diamond, which will once again include numerous collateral initiatives, also represents the foundation stone for the Club Italia LA28 project, with which the Elite National Team is preparing for the next four-year Olympic period.
For Italy it will be the seventh participation in the Haarlem Baseball Week, as well as the third consecutive after the 2018 and 2022 editions. In the last two appearances, the Azzurri have recorded four victories – against Cuba (in 2018 and 2022), Germany (in 2018) and Curacao (in 2022) – out of thirteen matches. The defeats in the playoff against the Netherlands and Cuba closed the path to fifth place in 2018, while two years ago, despite two successes and a fifth place in the first phase achieved due to the separate ranking, Italy was defeated by the Cuban team in the final for fifth place and finished the tournament in sixth place.
