We know the program! On June 6, 2024, 51 days before the first half of the Paris Olympic Games scheduled for July 27, the players of the French basketball team will meet at Insep. Starting point for a long and intense preparation which should take them to the Olympic podium.
For two days they will carry out individual medical assessments followed by the traditional media day. Jean-Aimé Toupane’s group will then leave Paris for a first course in Anglet, from June 9 to 19, then, after several days of rest, will return to La Roche-sur-Yon for a second course, from June 23 to July 1. In Vendée, the Tricolores will play their first matches. They will face Finland twice, on June 29 and July 1 at the Vendéspace in Mouilleron-le-Captif.
Iliana Rupert’s teammates will then head to Lyon for a new training course from July 6 to 12, punctuated by a high-level match against the Serbian team, 2021 European champion and semi-finalist of the Tokyo Olympic Games. .
Finally, the Bleues will finish their preparation with a final training camp in Reims, from July 16 to 22, during a four-team tournament which will see them face two nations including Belgium (European champion in 2023), China (World vice-champion in 2022) and Japan (Olympic vice-champion in 2021).
On July 23, the Blues, unlike their male counterparts who will reside in a hotel during the tournament, will take up residence in the Olympic village of Lille. The first week of competition takes place in the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in Villeneuve-d’Ascq.
The calendar revealed, however, a question remains: what about Marine Fauthoux? The leader of Asvel, who saw her season come to an abrupt end five days ago, due to a herniated disc – she was operated on on Friday – would be “still in the race” to compete in the Olympics, confided the general manager of the French team, Céline Dumerc, at the microphone of France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
“She is young and I know that she will do everything to try to get back on the floor as quickly as possible,” Dumerc said. We hope that Marine recovers a little beforehand so that she can be there with us from the start. We wish her a good rest, a good convalescence and we hope to find her soon. »
Frédéric Fauthoux’s daughter is, at 23, an executive in Jean-Aimé Toupane’s collective.
