Mathea Ling fought for a great 3rd place at the national competition for female youth U15 in Backnang. With three wins and one defeat in the semi-finals, she proudly received the bronze medal, while her two club colleagues Anni Hemmerling and Emilia Imbriani came in a good 5th place.
At the same time, the German individual championships for women and men U21 took place in Frankfurt (Oder). Brühler TV was represented in Brandenburg with three participants. Ann-Sophie Stemplin started as vice West German champion up to 70kg. In the first round she defeated her co-favorites and then made short work of her in the quarter-finals. She lost the semi-final against the eventual German champion. Unfortunately, she also lost out in the small final for bronze with two seconds to go and came in an ungrateful 5th place.
Caspar Golland and Maximilian Murawski both competed in the men’s weight up to 81kg. Maxi fought his way to the quarter-finals, where he lost to the eventual third-place finisher. After two victories, Caspar faced his 2021 final opponent of the 2021 EM U18 in the semi-finals. After just a few seconds he went in with his special technique Sode-Seoi-Nage and landed unhappily on his opponent’s arm. The opponent remained uninjured, but Caspar was disqualified because of the illegal technique and therefore had no chance of fighting for the medal again in the small final. Meanwhile, Maxi had already won the next fight in the consolation round. His opponent in the next fight was extremely clever and couldn’t hold a candle to Maxi at the beginning. But finally he managed to find a technique in the ground that allowed him to hold on to Maxi for 20 seconds. This meant that his dream of another medal at the German Championships in a weight class that was still unfamiliar to him was over.
But coach David Metzger was ultimately satisfied with the performances shown by his protégés, although all three could certainly have done better that day. Much to the chagrin of the athletes themselves. But keep your head up, it continues!
