Who is Alexis Jandard, unhappy French diver, but gold medal for self-deprecation

“I slipped boss!” Author of a spectacular fall on Thursday April 4 during Emmanuel Macron’s inauguration of the aquatic center of the Olympic Games, French diver Alexis Jandard showed second-rate regarding his buzz, very French Loose Federation.

“Okay, it’s time. I’m speaking up because with what happened, I think you want a little debrief,” he said on his Instagram account. “It’s time to brag because frankly, I deserve to be crazy,” he laughed.

Alexis Jandard was participating in a diving demonstration when he slipped on the diving board, before falling on his back and falling into the water, under the eyes of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, the Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa- Castéra and many cameras.

The images quickly made the rounds in the media and social networks.

“Everything is fine, I didn’t hurt myself. There was a little blood but it’s not serious, it won’t stop me from going to train this afternoon. I had a little weakness in my leg, it made me fall. I fell in front of the President of the Republic, I fell in front of the whole of France.”

Since then, he has conducted numerous interviews to recount the incident, always philosophically. On BFM TV, he explained that there were two ways to react in the event of a fall: “Either we go back to the surface and we are dignified, or we sink to the bottom of the water and we do not come up very quickly” , he said.

Qualified for Paris 2024

Aged 26, Alexis Jandard was born in Ecully, near Lyon. After a career as a high-level gymnast, he converted to diving in 2013 and joined the French team.

He was notably crowned world vice-champion in mixed team diving with Jade Gillet during the 2022 World Swimming Championships in Budapest.

For the 2024 Olympics, he will participate in the synchronized 3-meter springboard events with Jules Bouyer. At the Fukuoka Worlds in July 2023, the two athletes obtained the bronze medal in this event.

Alexis Jandard also won a bronze medal at the World Swimming Championships in 2023.

This time he won the gold medal for self-deprecation.
