PSG-Clermont (1-1): the very convincing debut of Senny Mayulu

In total, the left side of PSG, this Saturday April 6, was not even the age of Keylor Navas (37 years old). At 17 years and 10 months, Senny Mayulu and Yoram Zague, born respectively on May 17 and 15, 2006, are perhaps the next generation of a club with which they had the immense pleasure of knowing during the draw against Clermont (1-1) their first start in Ligue 1.

This playing time granted to the young Parisian guard was an expected gift from Luis Enrique, facing the bottom of the championship and four days before facing FC Barcelona in the Champions League. And which bore fruit: on the left in a position that was not his, Zague performed a very correct first while Mayulu, who we had already seen in the Coupe de France and against Montpllier (2-6) in Ligue 1, produced a particularly promising copy.

A very nice goal refused

He even thought he was rewarded for his excellent first period with a goal, on a dry, cross shot from outside the area which left Massamba Ndiaye (45th +5) no chance. But as he let his joy explode at scoring his first goal at the Parc des Princes, after having unlocked his professional counter against Orléans in the Coupe de France, the referee Gaël Angoula deprived him of it, precisely returning to a foul from his friend Yoram at the start of the action.

The disappointment palpable on his young face, but also in the stands of a Parc des Princes which had celebrated this achievement with the usual warmth that they display when it comes to praising a Titi, did not discourage him . Far from there. Under the eyes of another of his friends in the stands, Warren Zaire-Emery, Senny Mayulu was undoubtedly one of the best elements of a slightly moribund Parisian eleven this Saturday evening, undoubtedly a little lacking in direction given the turnover.

Mobile, combative and dangerous on his left side

Always available on his left side, stuck to the touchline or sometimes alternating with Carlos Soler to be in the heart of the game, Mayulu was not physically jostled and did not have to be ashamed technically.

On the contrary: he more than once had to jostle the Clermontois to recover good balls at the feet, with great energy and a sense of defensive sacrifice (17th, 25th, 26th in particular), and was at the origin of several offensive situations, on transmissions or just crosses (4th, 13th, 56th). Agile and lively, he posed problems for the Clermont defense until his replacement by Lee (67th), even if he sometimes lacked maturity in his choices, which is not abnormal after all.

Like Yoram Zague, Ethan Mbappé (in the group this Saturday) and Joane Gadou (who was once in the pro group, against Revel), Senny Mayulu is one of the Parisian U19s who have very regularly been brought in from the end of 2023 to train with Luis Enrique and his players. This tenure rewards the consistency of a kid who is seen as one of the greatest talents of this 2006 generation at PSG, and who produced a performance that does not insult his reputation.
