A number of players Persebaya Surabaya decided not to go home on Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah in order to prepare against Dewa United in the 31st week Liga 1Monday (16/4).

Persebaya player from Padang Pariaman, Muhammad Iqbal, is actually used to returning home during Eid. However, he chose to postpone returning to his hometown for Eid al-Fitr this year.

“Looking at the holiday schedule, of course I won’t go home, if I’m forced to, I’ll get tired of traveling. Moreover, tickets during the holidays also soar, so that’s why I’m just going to Surabaya for Eid,” said Iqbal, quoted by Antara, Sunday (7/4).

Iqbal explained that the Eid holiday usually takes a long time. However, he had to give in for the crucial match in League 1. Moreover, coach Paul Munster only gave him two days off, on April 10 and 11 2024.

Nevertheless, the player born in 2000 is still grateful to have Eid in Surabaya for the first time since being brought in by Persebaya in December 2022.

“Like it or not, it has to be done, fortunately I haven’t bought a plane ticket. Meanwhile, I’m here for Eid and focusing on training first,” he said.

Persebaya striker Wildan Ramdhani also abandoned his intention to return home for Eid to his hometown in Bandung, West Java. Physical considerations are one of the reasons.

Wildan admitted that returning home by land would take approximately 10 to 14 hours from Surabaya. Meanwhile, plane tickets are very difficult to get during Eid.

“If it’s like this, I won’t go home, because the road trip from Surabaya to Bandung takes quite a lot of time. In fact, I get tired on the trip, so I’ll go to Surabaya for Eid first,” he said.

In the next two matches, Persebaya will play a home match against Dewa United at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, Tuesday (16/4).

Next, the club nicknamed Bajul Ijo will play an away match against Persib Bandung on April 20 2034 at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium.

Persebaya is currently in 10th place in the Indonesian League 1 standings with a total of 39 points from 30 matches.
