Andreas Wöhl from TuS Rotenburg became German judo champion in his age group for the third time after 2017 and 2019.

Rotenburg – TuS Rotenburg has a new German champion: The 69-year-old judoka Andreas Wöhl won the over 30 title fights in the Ring Arena at the Nürburgring in the M 9 to 81 kilogram age group. It was Wöhl’s seventh participation in the DM – and again a pretty successful one. “Of course we were very happy about it. The last title win, back in Neuhof, was exactly five years ago to the day,” he reported. After 2017 and 2019, it is already the third DM triumph.

In the opening fight, Wöhl was faced with a very difficult task. There he met the reigning world champion Wolfgang Löffler from SV Grün Weiß Wittenberg-Piesteritz (Saxony-Anhalt). Both already knew each other from various encounters in the past. In a direct comparison so far it was 3:1 for Löffler. “This time too it was a close fight with no major points for both,” reported the Rotenburger. Due to his more active fighting style and better technical approaches, Wöhl was ultimately awarded victory by judge’s decision. This paved the way for the title.

Against Günter Pust from Ueckermünder JC (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania), he finally put everything on one card and was able to counter with a successful throwing technique and secure his opponent in a hold. Wöhl ended his final fight early after just 40 seconds with a full points score and thus secured the title.

Sottrum’s Manfred Schwarzer in the quarterfinals

“Now it’s important to continue training diligently,” said the Wümmestadt resident, who does this, among other things, in the Enjoy Judo Oyten training group. The team’s second German champion also comes from there, Andreas Pajer (59) from Oyten, who won the M 7 to 66 kilograms.

The 54-year-old Manfred Schwarzer from Sottrum started third from the Enjoy Judo Association in the M 5 to 90 kilogram class. He was eliminated in the quarterfinals after a bye and two defeats against Ralf Mosebach (Martial Arts School at Klostergarten Berlin) and Andreas Horn (Schöneberger JC). For the two German champions Wöhl and Pajer, the title could possibly have positive consequences and also mean a start at the World Cup in November in Las Vegas.
