The World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) officially announced the composition of the groups for the third edition of the Premier 12 tournament. As expected, the Cuban team will begin playing in key B, which will be hosted by to Taiwan next November.

In addition to the host cast, the program is completed by teams from Japan, South Korea, the Dominican Republic and Australia, according to the note published on the WBSC website.

At the end of last March, Taiwanese media had announced the list of teams that would travel to the Asian island to participate in the Premier 12, but this same Monday Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of the Cuban federation, assured that he still did not have a official confirmation.

That step has now been completed, putting Cuba in a complicated group led by the South Koreans, champions of the 2015 edition and second four years later, along with the Japanese, third in the inaugural edition and winners in the second. These are the only two countries that have reached the podium in previous tournaments.

In key A, in Mexico, the hosts will receive the teams from the United States, Puerto Rico, Panama, Venezuela and the Netherlands.

Cuba entered the contest thanks to its accumulated 3,121 points in the ranking of the WBSC (valid for eighth place) at the time of the cut-off for classification.

Although the preliminary phase of the next edition will have its group headquarters in Mexico and Taiwan, the opening duel will be held at the Nagoya Dome in Japan on November 13.

Premier 12: Very close and very far

The first two finishers in each bracket will advance to the super round, carrying over the results of the preliminary section. Each team will face the two opponents from the other section and the two best will seek the crown in a duel agreed upon at the Tokyo Dome stadium in the Japanese capital.

The Cuban federation has reiterated that it will seek to confirm a competitive team, and therefore maintains contacts with players who play in professional circuits, including those who maintain ties with franchises of the Major League Baseball (MLB) of the United States.

The same authorities have clarified that they will give some priority to those who stand out in this National Series.
