On the weekend of April 13 and 14, 2024, the BCHP (Badminton Club du Haut-Poitou) organized the sixth edition of the Haut-Poitou tournament, a national level event, approved by the federation, and giving right to points, for the players participating, depending on the results obtained. More than 170 players came, some of whom came from far away (Auvergne, Paris region, etc.).
The BCHP, which has 200 members, is therefore a club geared towards competition. With, in its ranks, Coraline Bergeron, who aims to participate in the Paris Paralympic Games, Floriane Dubois, also, world-level paraathlete, Jimmy Kerrever who is currently participating in the French military championships, and, among the youngest (youngest ), Clara Jamelot and Enoal Padel who are among the best regional players.
Clara and Enoal are the “pure products” of the BCHP badminton school which, of course, trains its future players from the age of 4-5, but according to President Brice Lagarde “also aims to introduce and train local kids to our sport, the practice of which is very beneficial in terms of coordination, autonomy, attention and self-esteem.”
The school ranks first (3 stars) in the department and fifth in New Aquitaine.
Furthermore, the BCHP is developing, in partnership with the La Chaume – La Salle college, in Vouillé, a specific Bad section: it welcomes 19 middle school students, from the sixth to the third year, who train four hours per week at the college (to which add three hours within the club).
Finally, in parallel with the competition aspect, the BCHP offers a leisure section which has around sixty members.
For all of its activities (competition, initiation, training, leisure), the BCHP hopes, through the voice of its president “to be allocated, in the long term, an existing room or to be built, and, if necessary, to share with compatible sports, climbing, for example”.
