Italy Dominates European Cup Junior in Lignano With Gold and Silver Medals, Surges to the Top of Medal Table

The second day of the European Cup Junior at Lignano gave a boost to Italy who, with the gold medals of Micaela Sciacovelli in the 52 kg and of Michela Terranova in the 57 kg together with the silver one of Henry Owusu Asare Owusu in the 90 kg, it rose to first place in the medal table for nations, leaving behind Georgia, second and Germany, third.

“Great finale for our riders with Sciacovelli and Terranova absolute dominators of their categories. -he commented Salvatore Ferro, coach of the Azzurri – Two successes arrived at the end of a match conducted by protagonists and without flaws. Owusu’s medal was also important and deserved as he stubbornly managed all the matches until the final where, however, he was stopped by a leap from the Bosnian athlete. It’s a shame for the three fifth places of Stella, Massimetti and Finestrone who nevertheless provided authoritative performances.”

“It was a very well organized match – said the Italian coach Vito Zocco– and the level of the participating athletes was very high, it is enough to mention the presence of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Germany and France, but our Italians were among the best and for the third consecutive year we managed to win the general classification, the medal table and thanks certainly go to them and their companies and the families who invest in these young people. Thanks are due to Kuroki Tarcento and all the volunteers who made this event a flagship of the European junior circuit”.

“Today this gold medal finally arrived – he said smiling Micaela Sciacovelli– and I am very happy and I thank my company Union Bari, my family and this is just the beginning, for me it is just a launching pad, I have too big dreams”.

“I felt very good from the start – she said Michela Terranova– and the final was the match that excited me the most, also because the 57 kg is a new category for me, in which I recently won the Italian title. I am really happy with this result and I thank my Carabinieri commander Luigi Guido, my technician Giovanni Carollo, Matteo Marconcini and all my family, who are always close to me”.

“I’m very happy with the race – he said Henry Owusu Asare Owusu– the only regret is the final but I managed to redeem myself from the race in Portugal. First of all, I would like to thank my gym, my president Lucia Rubini, my teacher Luigi Crescini, my technicians Luca Ravanetti and Jacopo Cavalca, my companions who help me in training and the Salvatore Robuschi company for the project that allows me to undertake in collaboration with my judo school. A thought also goes to my class who cheered for me from a distance.

Judo Kuroki therefore celebrated the 41st Tarcento Trophy in style, for the thirteenth time the European Junior Cup, awarding the Tarcento Trophy (reserved for the men’s sector) to Georgia, the European Union Cup to Germany (first in the women’s ranking), the Valli del Torre to Italy first in the overall medal table, the Costantini Cup to the Società Ginnastica Triestina for the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Society with the best result and finally to Australia the Amicizia Cup.
