Philadelphia 76ers (E7) – New York Knicks (E2) 92:97 (BOXSCORE), Serie: 1-3
The Knicks held the hosts without a point for over four minutes in the final period, while New York grabbed one offensive rebound after the other in these minutes and hit a few free throws to pull away. With 55 seconds left, Jalen Brunson made it +6 with a floater, and the Sixers, who looked completely depleted, had no answer.
Brunson was the man of the evening, setting a new career high with 47 points (18/34 FG) and also breaking the Knicks’ franchise record (previously Bernard King, 46 points in April 1984). The former Mavericks guard also distributed 10 assists. Only Deuce McBride (13) and OG Anunoby (16, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks) scored in double figures for the Knicks, who kept Joel Embiid in check in the fourth quarter after Isaiah Hartenstein (8, 4 rebounds) got into foul trouble. Josh Hart (4, 0/7 FG, 17 boards) missed all of his throws, but was terrific on defense.
Embiid played a whopping 44 minutes for Philadelphia, but improved enormously after the break and finished the game with 27 points (7/19 FG, 12/14 FT), 10 rebounds and 6 assists. 30 seconds before the end the center left a completely open leger, the Sixers missed out on shortening it to -2 again. Tyrese Maxey (23, 8/21) and Kelly Oubre Jr. (19) were also unable to knock the buck down.
