At only 18 years old and barely two months after completing her baccalaureate, Maud Lefort will participate in the 2024 Paris Games in para-badminton.

The native of Montmorency, residing in Mareil-en-France, was selected on April 23 by the Paralympic Selection Committee. In the space of two years, the member of the Union Sportive Ézanville-Écouen (Usee Badminton) has become an essential sportswoman among the SU5 (a category reserved for players with a slight limitation in the movement of one arm, a considerable limitation movement of the arm that is not playing or the absence of part of the limb). However, ten years ago, nothing suggested such a life. Maud then practices gym and football. But a fall during a sporting activity causes a large displacement of the elbow.

A twist of fate at 7 years old

» This accident forever limited the rotation, pronation and supination of his left forearm. We directed her towards a sport where she could progress despite her weakened arm. Badminton came to the fore,” says his dad, Cyrille.

» In the youth categories, I participated in several French Championships with the able-bodied, reaching the quarter-finals twice in singles. I now play with my club’s Nationale 1 team. The discovery of para-badminton came in 2021 and I was able to join Creps de Châtenay-Malabry,” continues Maud, who had to wait to compete in the major international tournaments in her category. “My classification in SU5 was initially refused on the grounds that I had shoulder mobility,” she regrets. It took the efforts of Élisa Chanteur, the CTN, to redo a new file oriented from a new angle, finally validated in 2022.

Meteorological rise

From then on, determined, fast and comfortable with her forehand, Maud is capable of beating the best in the world. The Valdoisienne won five of her first seven confrontations with Manisha Ramadass (2022 world champion). To qualify for the Games, she multiplied her exploits to climb to 3rd place in the world in singles. » Victory at the European Games and the Canadian International Open in Ottawa, bronze medal at the World Championships, final in Spain, Brazil and the 4 Nations and a few days ago 3rd place at the Vitoria Open. His last 15 months were intense,” summarizes his father.
