The Rise of Anthony Edwards: Drawing Comparisons to Michael Jordan and Making a Name for Himself

Exceptional since the start of the NBA Playoffs, Anthony Edwards increasingly sees his name associated with the greatest backs in history. And in particular the greatest: Michael Jordan. A comparison that is gaining more and more momentum… to the great dismay of Ant-Man.

Anthony Edwards can’t stop the inevitable. Especially if he continues his formidable rise.

After a regular season where he officially entered the clan of superstars, Ant-Man is now taking advantage of the big stage of the Playoffs to shine brightly, terrorizing his opponents one after the other. We remind you that there are two matches at 40 pawns, including one on the floor of the reigning champion. All at just… 22 pigs.

Still, as outgoing and ambitious as he is, Edwards refuses for the moment to be considered the face of the NBA. He also refuses to be compared to the greatest of them all: Michael Jordan.

We’ve all seen those Twitter montages that highlight the purely physical resemblance between Edwards and MJ. Recently, more and more videos also put Ant-Man’s game side by side with Jordan’s. Whether Edwards likes it or not, the resemblance is striking. Add to that a similar desire to destroy everyone in both players, and you have almost a carbon copy. Even Jojo himself see similarities!

“He looks like Jordan. He moves like Jordan. He has a big mouth like Jordan. He changed a franchise as big as Jordan. He instills his ethics in his teammates like Jordan. He is a “must-see TV” like Jordan. More and more, he leaves his opponents in his wake like Jordan. He controls the end of the match like Jordan.” –Marcus Thompson II, The Athletic

The big difference between Anthony Edwards and Michael Jordan obviously lies in the accomplishments of both players. MJ won everything in his path in the 1990s, Ant-Man is only 22 years old and has the mission to take a long-moribund franchise to heights never reached before. Needless to say, the road is long and winding, and Edwards knows it very well.

For many kids his age, being compared to the great Jordan could be considered the ultimate honor…and reason enough to get a big head. But Anthony Edwards has a good head on his shoulders. He is not afraid of anyone but respects those who reached the top before him. He follows in the footsteps of the greatest but refuses too flattering comparisons. He wants to be inspired by legends but above all to write his own story.

Ant-Man is all that.

A guard who is in the same lineage as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, but who in 10 or 15 years will want to be considered the premier Anthony Edwards. The one who will – perhaps – have dominated the NBA by offering one or more titles to a franchise which had never won anything before his arrival. Like a certain…Jordan. Oops, sorry.
