TV Plettenberg successfully applied for a day with tennis professional Mischa Zverev.
Plettenberg – All tennis fans in and around Plettenberg can look forward to a special highlight: On Thursday, September 12th, Mischa Zverev will be playing at the Edenborn facility and offering training for children and adults from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The likeable older brother, coach and manager of top 10 professional Alexander Zverev, who made it to number 25 in the world rankings in 2017, will also provide entertainment at the highest level in a show match, and the Hamburg resident will also be available for photos and autographs. It should be a great day at the facility high above Plettenberg, open to everyone, not just members of the Plettenberg tennis club. “We are hoping for 400 visitors,” says Verena Klippert from TVP, who launched the special campaign after positive experiences with Mischa Zverev.
Background: Last year, Verena Klippert and her daughter Marla took part in a Diabetes Kids Tennis Camp event as part of the BMW Cup in Munich. “Marla has diabetes and I followed the Diabetes Kids Forum on Facebook,” says Verena Klippert. The tournament in Munich then offered the opportunity to take part in such a tennis camp for children and young people aged eight and over with type 1 diabetes following the Easter holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia. “We were in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for the holidays and, because it was the Monday after the holidays, I fought for another day off school for Marla,” said Klippert, pleased that the visit to Munich worked out.
Such special tennis days are supported by the Alexander Zverev Foundation and the Dianiño Foundation. Tennis star and Olympic champion Alexander (Sascha) Zverev suffered from type 1 diabetes at the age of four and founded the foundation that finances projects for affected children and young people. “I want to show that you can go a long way with this disease. “I want to be a role model for children who are already sick, but also a support for people who can avoid getting type 2 diabetes with an active life and the right prevention,” says Alexander Zverev, explaining why he is “serving against diabetes.” has started.
In Munich, a coaching team led by the Zverev brothers was available on four places for the children and young people. “Marla was allowed to train with Mischa for 90 minutes and was also able to do a few rallies with Sascha,” remembers Verena Klippert of the successful event, which will be repeated in a similar form on June 16th in Halle.
Clubs can apply for a tennis event with Mischa Zverev, like the one that will soon take place in Plettenberg, via the mybigpoint platform. The TVP board tried it, the club’s 75th anniversary this year was a good starting point for the application, as was the positive development of the TVP. Ultimately, we managed to increase the number of junior teams from zero to six within two years. There are also four adult teams.
And the application was actually successful, Mischa Zverev will come to Sauerland on the Thursday before the P-Weg weekend. “We’re super proud of it,” says Verena Klippert. The program for September 12th is being worked on diligently. Sponsors are on board, there will be a raffle and shuttle buses will take the audience to Edenborn. Fine-tuning is being done, but in keeping with the motto “Save the date”, tennis fans should make a note of the date.
