Jakarta –
Indonesian U-20 National Team coach Indra Sjafri confirmed that he would not call Marselino Ferdinan to the Toulon Tournament. This event will be held in France on June 3 -16.
Indra Sjafri said that Marselino Ferdinan’s age no longer met the criteria. Marselino was born on September 9 2004 or is still 19 years old.
The Toulon tournament is actually an event for the U-22 age class. However, Indonesia, which was invited to this event, chose to send the U-20 National Team.
“Marselino Ferdinand can’t. This tournament is for births from 2001 to 2005. Actually it’s not allowed for 2006 and 2007,” said Indra Sjafri to journalists.
Most recently, Marselino Ferdinan has just defended the Indonesian National Team and U-23 National Team in the 2023 Asian Cup and 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, and the 2024 Olympic playoffs. At the U-23 Asian Cup, he received a lot of sharp criticism because he was considered to be playing individually.
Meanwhile, Indra Sjafri admitted that he remembered the memory of taking care of Indonesia in the 2017 Toulon Tournament. At that time he managed Egy Maulana Vikri Cs to face the Czech Republic, Scotland and Brazil.
Meanwhile, Indonesia last took part in this tournament in 2022. Bima Sakti’s team faced Venezuela, Mexico and Ghana.
“Just like the 2017 Toulon Tournament when it was in the same group as Brazil and in 2022 when it was with Bima Sakti. We agreed with PSSI, this tournament is for testing the U-20 Indonesian National Team,” said Indra Sjafri.
“That means births from 2005-2007. Actually, births from 2006-2007 are not included in their regulations, but if there is a special request, that is possible,” he said.
