Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari qualify for the semifinals Thailand Open 2024 after winning the ‘civil war’. Meanwhile, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung lost dramatically.
Rinov/Pitha eliminated Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in a tight duel at Nimibutr Stadium, Bangkok, Friday (17/5/2024) afternoon WIB. Rinov/Pitha won 21-19, 23-21.
Even though they won two straight games, Rinov/Pitha had a tough battle against Dejan/Gloria. In the first game, Rinov/Pitha were behind 8-13 before turning in to win eight points in a row.
After winning 16-13, Rinov/Pitha continued to lead. They then secured the first game 21-19.
The second game was tight again. Rinov/Pitha, who were ahead 12-8 and 16-13, continued to be chased by Dejan/Gloria until the score was tied at 16-16. The two pairs continued to chase points until they drew 20-20.
However, Rinov/Pitha succeeded in winning the last two points to seal the win. Rinov/Pitha will next face Guo Xin Wa/Chen Fang Hui (China) in the semifinals of the Thailand Open 2024.
From the women’s singles event, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung had to lift her suitcase in the quarterfinals. Gregoria was eliminated by the host’s representative, Supanida Katethong, in a rubber game duel with a score of 21-14, 20-22, 20-22.
In the third game, Gregoria, who was behind from the start, was able to take the lead 17-15. He even reached match point first at 20-19.
However, Gregoria actually made a mistake after his shot went wide. Since then, Katethong won consecutive points to seal victory.
