Ten athletes who belong to the National Sports Commission (Conade) fell in an elevator from the fifth floor inside the Aranzazú hotel located in the center of Guadalajara, as reported by the Municipal Coordination of Civil Protection and Firefighters of said city.

The officers of the corporation immediately moved to Revolución Avenue at the intersection with Degollado, on the night of Sunday, May 26.

Upon inspection, firefighters found that the elevator with capacity for six people had fallen, however, the emergency brake of the elevator was activated, getting stuck between floors 1 and 2.

“Upon arriving at the place, we realized that it is an elevator on floor number 2 with 10 people inside, young people between 17 and 25 years old, immediately proceeding to make an opening for ventilation. Subsequently secure the elevator and perform the maneuvers for opening,” said Guadalajara fire commander Sergio Herrera.

According to information from local media, the athletes involved are Archery practitioners, who were transferred to the Mexican American Hospital for evaluation and were reported to be in good health.

The accident could have been caused by exceeding the maximum weight on the elevator, but the authorities who have already opened an investigation will be in charge of determining whether or not that is the reason.
