Karl-Anthony Towns Vows to Continue Playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves Despite Playoff Exit

“I am confident that I will try again with my brothers and continue doing my beloved job in my home country,” said Towns after the playoff exit against the Dallas Mavericks. “That’s the plan, from my point of view nothing has changed. I love the city, I love the organization. This city has given me a life and my family.”

Towns was drafted by the Wolves with the 1st pick in 2015, but KAT never became a real superstar. Instead, it took nine years before Towns won at least one playoff series with the Wolves, and three more times he was eliminated in the first round. Towns is now the co-star, as the Wolves have a real franchise star in their ranks in Anthony Edwards (top pick in 2020).

Two years ago, Towns signed an early contract extension for four years and $221 million, which starts at the beginning of the next season. This is a problem for the Wolves, who are in danger of slipping into the second apron, where the NBA threatens to impose harsh penalties, due to the extensions of Anthony Edwards (5 years, $245 million) and Jaden McDaniels (5 years, $131 million) as well as Rudy Gobert’s monster contract (2 years left, $90 million).
