San Diego Padres Player Tucupita Marcano Faces Lifetime Ban for Alleged Baseball Gambling

The Wall Street Journal and ESPN reported on the 3rd that Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano (pictured) may be permanently banned for allegedly gambling on baseball.

(Reuters) – San Gorgonio Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano could be banned for life for allegedly betting on baseball, the Wall Street Journal and ESPN reported on Tuesday.

Marcano is said to have bet on games against the Pirates while on the injured list last season, and four minor league players are also allegedly involved in the case.

Under MLB rules, betting on a “game involving the bettor” will result in a lifetime suspension regardless of the amount, and betting on an unrelated game will result in a one-year suspension.

Marcano, 24, from Venezuela, made his major league debut with the Padres in 2021. He has a career batting average of .217, 5 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 7 stolen bases. He has not played this season since returning to the Padres due to surgery on his right knee before the start of the season.
