Tragic Accident Claims Life of Six-Year-Old Girl on Vacation in Maine

A six-year-old girl on vacation in Maine died accidentally after breaking a badminton racket while playing with her brother last week, police said.

The aluminum handle of the racket came off the handle and hit the girl, identified as Lucy Morgan, in the head at midday Saturday. She pierced his skull, Maine State Police said Friday.

The girl was rushed from her home in Limerick, a city west of Portland, to a nearby hospital and then flown to Maine Medical Center, but died Wednesday, police said.

The injury was unintentional and was an accident, according to police, who wrote in a statement: “Maine State Police would like to express their deepest condolences to the Morgan family,” who they said were from Stockholm, New Jersey.

Lucy’s father, a pastor at a church in Rockaway, New Jersey, documented her hospital stay on his blog.

“After extensive and even more repeated testing to be sure, brain death was declared at 1:32 a.m. on June 5, and her heart stopped beating around 4 a.m. Lucy was with Jesus,” her father wrote. , Jesse Morgan.

He also shared that his wife had given Lucy a prayer journal last month that, after her death, they found in her backpack. The first entry said, “God is so amazing and He is the true God, he created everything and died on the cross for our sins.”

Lucy’s father commented: “It’s almost as if God is writing with her, drawing her to himself. How a six-year-old girl keeps diaries like this is beyond me.”

The Morgans’ church, Green Pond Bible Chapel, said they would hold a mourning service for Lucy on June 15, and Pastor Ryan Boys wrote a letter to the community Wednesday reflecting on the loss.

“As hard as this is for the Morgans, they are not crying or walking alone,” he concluded.
