Lionel Messi responds to Kylian Mbappé regarding EURO 2024
Following Kylian Mbappé’s comments regarding the competitiveness of the European Championships, world champion Lionel Messi responds to him.
The European Championships remain a separate competition. Even though the World Cup is certainly the most famous and prestigious competition in the world, the EURO has nothing to envy of it. Kylian Mbappé, captain of the Blues, spoke about the competition. The 2018 World Cup winner and 2022 finalist was complimentary of the European competition. Although the World Cup brings together the best countries in the world, Mbappé confirmed that the EURO was a more complicated competition to win : “I always felt the same thing, it’s a really very complicated competition (the EURO). For me, it’s more complicated than a World Cupeven despite the pressure that exists in a World Cup.“
Following his statements, Lionel Messi, during an interview, was questioned regarding the words of Kylian Mbappé. The Argentinian showed that the World Cup was a more complicated competition than the EURO : “Mbappé said the EURO was more difficult than the World Cup? He also said that South American teams did not have the same level of competition as European teams. Everyone likes what he plays. The EURO is very important, but he leaves aside Argentina, 3 times world champion, Brazil, 5 times world champion, Uruguay, 2 times world champion. Many world champions can’t say EURO is the hardest, can they? In the World Cup, the best teams are there, all the world champions are there. This is why everyone wants to be world champion.“

Two valid reasonings
Both players are incredible stars who have already made World Cup history. At just 25 years old, Kylian Mbappé is one of the competition’s top scorers. However, at the EURO, lhe captain of the Blues has, for the moment, failed to impose his game on the tournament. For him, the European Championships remain a more complicated competition because, unlike the World Cup, Mbappé still has everything to prove.
On Lionel Messi’s side, he won everything, whether in continental or world competition. However, he says the World Cup remains more complicatede. The Argentinian managed to reach the World Cup final twice with just one victory. Both players’ arguments are valid. Both will play their continental competitions this summer. The stakes are higher for Kylian Mbappé who still has everything to prove at the EURO. He who has shown himself determined, we hope that he will respond during theEURO 2024.
